Donors reasonably want to know that what they give reaches households that genuinely need it. The only way to be confident of that is to go and look, which is what we do for every case.
A case reaches us
Through our helpline, through a volunteer, or through a neighbour who tells us about a household in difficulty. Anyone can refer a family, including the family themselves.
We visit and assess
A team member meets the household at home. We look at income, dependants, health, whether children are in school, and what the actual pressure point is. Sometimes the presenting problem is not the real one — a family asking for rations may in fact need a medical bill cleared so the earner can return to work.
Support is approved and reviewed
The case is matched to the right program and to a defined period, not an open-ended commitment. We check in monthly, and support is extended, adjusted or wound down depending on whether things are improving.
Applicants are treated confidentially throughout. We do not publish photographs or details that would identify a family without their permission.
